INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Motorists on the city’s southwest side should be prepared for the second half of the I-465 directional closures. Starting Friday night following the evening rush hour, westbound I-465 will be reduced to one lane. Between 9 p.m. Friday and 1 a.m. on Saturday, crews will gradually add barriers and close off access to I-465.

Early Saturday morning, westbound I-465 and the following ramps will be closed to traffic:

  • I-65 to I-465 westbound
  • S. 31/East Street to I-465 westbound
  • Harding Street/S.R. 37 to I-465 westbound
  • Kentucky Avenue/S.R. 67 to I-465 westbound

Various signage and messaging have been deployed throughout Marion County, advising motorists of the upcoming closure. Motorists are encouraged to seek alternate routes and allow for extra travel times when possible. Click here to view a

The official detour will follow I-65 northbound to I-70 westbound at the South Split.

Motorists are encouraged to download INDOT’s TrafficWise app or check 511.org to find the latest information about your commute.

The westbound I-465 closures will allow crews to gain access and complete work related to adding lane capacity, perform road surface upgrades, and improve utilities and drainage.

The closure is expected to last through July 29. To learn more about what work is going to be accomplished, watch this short video recapping the eastbound I-465 improvements that were completed last month.
