New southbound S.R. 37 ramp to open; watch for temporary lanes and signals

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind – Crews will begin switching Southport Road/State Road 37 traffic into a new phase starting Sunday night to allow for the construction of mainline I-69 and completion of the Southport Road interchange. During this time, access to S.R. 37 from Old Southport Road east of the highway and the existing signal and access to S.R. 37 at Banta Road in Marion County will be removed.

The new southbound on-ramp from Southport Road to S.R. 37 will open with a temporary traffic signal to allow for seamless entry onto S.R. 37. The traffic signal will be synchronized with the existing signal at the intersection of S.R. 37 and Old Southport Road.

During the seven-day closure the Southport Road on-ramp to northbound S.R. 37 will remain closed as crews finish the ramp and tie it into the new northbound travel lanes. During this time, northbound motorists will be detoured to Harding Street to S.R. 37.

Northbound S.R. 37 to Southport Road

S.R. 37 northbound to Southport Road will use a portion of the new exit ramp followed by a stretch of temporary pavement that connects to Old Southport Road. Be sure to slow down to safely exit S.R. 37.

The southbound S.R. 37 ramp onto Southport Road will remain open throughout the duration of the closure.

At the conclusion of the seven-day closure all Southport Road ramps will be open and all S.R. 37 traffic will be moved onto new pavement.  The speed limit throughout this section of the I-69 Finish Line project remains 45 miles per hour.

About I-69 Finish Line
I-69 Finish Line is the sixth and final section of the Interstate 69 connection between Evansville and Indianapolis. The project will upgrade the existing S.R. 37 to interstate standards between Martinsville and Indianapolis.

Governor Eric Holcomb’s Next Level Connections program fully funded the project and accelerated construction by three years. I-69 Finish Line is expected to open to traffic in late 2024, improving safety and reducing travel time.
