On Track Project Update: October 3, 2022

  • What does it take to rebuild a bridge from the ground up? What happened piece by piece over months with the Mann Road overpass can be understood in less than 2 minutes with this time-lapse video.
  • Construction of the future I-69 interchange and lanes has closed Epler Avenue west of State Road 37. The detour of Banta Road and Concord Street is expected to remain in place into next year. Read Friday’s traffic update for a map and more information.
  • Construction of a new traffic signal at Wellingshire Boulevard and the realigned Belmont Avenue west of S.R. 37 is expected to stop Southport Road traffic intermittently for up to 20 minutes on Tuesday and Wednesday nights. Expect the signal to be turned on by late October.
  • Drainage pipe installation will reduce Wicker Road to one lane near S.R. 37. Expect delays between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. where a temporary signal alternates one-way traffic.
  • Following last week’s traffic shifts, both directions of S.R. 37 are now sharing new pavement south of Southport Road. The Johnson County traffic pattern is expected to remain in place for about one year as construction continues for the future I-69 pavement and bridges.
  • Signal timings and stop bars at the Smith Valley Road intersection have been adjusted for the new location of S.R. 37 traffic.
  • Bluff Road is expected to close starting next week near Angel Animal Hospital. Access the area from Fairview Road to the north or Wakefield Road to the south. The former Bluffdale Drive intersection at S.R. 37 will be removed and reconfigured.
  • Noise barrier work is expected to begin in the coming weeks with steel post installation along the Oak Meadows Mobile Home Community, near Old S.R. 37 and Stones Crossing Road.
  • Reduced speed limits have been removed from most of the I-69 work zone through Martinsville. The northbound speed limit drops north of Martinsville from 65 to 45mph for ongoing work including bridge painting, rumble strips, median cable barrier and driveway removal.
  • Paving crews are applying the final layers on new access roads in the Artesian Square Shopping Center with the Martinsville Kroger and Rural King.
  • Expect remaining pavement markings to be applied midweek in Artesian Square and other locations in the Martinsville I-69 work zone.

The actual starting date and duration for work and any closures may be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen activities occur.
