Existing S.R. 37 signal and road east of S.R. 37 to remain open for access

INDIANAPOLIS (Nov. 11, 2022) – The new Southport Road bridge over the future I-69 and the new southbound S.R. 37 exit ramp are scheduled to open before the Monday morning commute.

It is the first of several traffic changes drivers should expect as the new interchange opens to traffic. Motorists are encouraged to follow I-69 Finish Line on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram for schedule updates.

The existing S.R. 37 traffic signal and Southport Road to the east will connect with the new alignment at a traffic signal east of S.R. 37. It will remain open temporarily for other traffic movements:

  • Northbound S.R. 37 to Southport Road
  • Southport Road to northbound S.R. 37
  • Southport Road to southbound S.R. 37

Through traffic on Southport Road will encounter four new traffic signals at the interchange ramps and local roads east and west of S.R. 37. The signal at Wellingshire Boulevard and the realigned Belmont Avenue was activated earlier this week.

Overnight traffic impacts

The new traffic pattern will take effect in phases between 6 p.m. Sunday and 5 a.m. Monday, weather permitting. Traffic signals will be realigned on the new Southport Road and at the S.R. 37 and Harding Street intersections. Motorists should anticipate up to 20-minute stoppages at each of these intersections during the traffic switches.

About I-69 Finish Line
I-69 Finish Line is the sixth and final section of the Interstate 69 connection between Evansville and Indianapolis. The project will upgrade the existing S.R. 37 to interstate standards between Martinsville and Indianapolis.

Governor Eric Holcomb’s Next Level Connections program fully funded the project and accelerated construction by three years. I-69 Finish Line is expected to open to traffic in late 2024, improving safety and reducing travel time.
