On Track Project Update: October 2, 2023

Another week and another milestone reached for I-69 Finish Line.  Last week crews poured the final portion of the deck for the White River Bridge along eastbound I-465.  This pour marks the final stage of the demolition and reconstruction of the eastbound bridge.

The new eastbound bridge is 833 feet long and sits 26 feet above the White River’s high-water mark.  Crews drilled 20 shafts, each approximately 120 feet deep, to support the structure, which includes six spans with eight beams per span. In total, 2,000 cubic yards of concrete were poured to complete the eastbound bridge.

  • Belmont Avenue is currently closed from Banta Road south to the east entrance of the Lighthouse Landing apartments for paving operations. Banta Road closed under SR 37 last night. These closures are expected until mid or late October. Learn more here.
  • The eastbound ramp from Mann Rd. to I-465 is expected to be closed through the end of October.
  • There may be nighttime single lane closures on I-465 between Kentucky Avenue and US 31 next week. These closures will be at various locations for maintenance and structure installation work.
  • While not part of the I-69 Finish Line project, motorists should be aware of a large-scale pavement patching operation that began last week on Clear Path 465 on the city’s northeast side. Southbound I-465 from 71st Street to Pendleton Pike will be reduced to two lanes until October 13. Click here to learn more.
  • The southbound ramps to and from Smith Valley Road are open. Northbound ramps will open in late 2023. The northbound detour is Bluffdale Road between Smith Valley Road and County Line Road.
  • Northbound SR 37 will have a single-lane condition under the SR 144 bridge until work on the mainline allows for traffic to be switched to its proper lanes.
  • During the next two weeks, paving crews will be active near the State Road 144 bridge area. Watch for flaggers and drive with caution on SR 144 and Old SR 37 during this time.

The actual starting date and duration for work and any closures may be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen activities occur.
