On Track Project Update: June 26, 2023

Share

For this edition of On Track, we turn our attention to the south in Johnson and Morgan counties. Recent coverage has focused on the progress being made in Marion County and I-465, but crews in Johnson County have been hard at work continuing to move I-69 towards the finish line.

Like others on the I-69 Finish Line corridor, the Smith Valley Road interchange will open in stages. When the new overpass bridge opens in mid-July, the southbound off and on ramps to S.R. 37 will open as well. Because of the current mainline configuration, the northbound ramp tie-ins won’t be completed until later this year. There will be more details about maintenance of traffic in the coming weeks, so stay tuned to I-69 Finish Line On Track and social media channels.

Waverly Park Road/Old S.R. 37 reopened to traffic late last week, signifying another step towards completion on the S.R. 144 interchange. Crews closed a section of Waverly Park Road/Old S.R. 37 to rebuild the pavement and improve access to the new roundabout that’s west of the S.R. 144 interchange.

For northbound motorists on S.R. 37, you may have noticed paving activities picking up in Morgan and Johnson counties. The last of the new concrete pavement has been placed between Smith Valley Road and S.R. 144, and crews anticipate switching southbound traffic onto permanent driving surface after the July 4th holiday weekend.

  • Paving activities are scheduled later this week on Southport Road west of S.R. 37 to complete the tie in from the new Southport Road alignment to the existing roadway.
  • Crews will be working along the shoulder on I-69/S.R. 37 in Morgan and Johnson counties to install highway fencing. Motorists are encouraged to move over when shoulder work is occurring.

The actual starting date and duration for work and any closures may be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen activities occur.
