On Track Project Update: July 10, 2023

Another major step towards progress occurred over the weekend as Finish Line crews continued work on I-465 on Indianapolis’s southwest side. Road crews successfully closed westbound I-465 between I-65 and I-70 to complete work related to added capacity, perform road surface upgrades and improve utilities and drainage.

During the closure westbound I-465 and the following ramps will be closed to traffic:

  • I-65 to I-465 westbound
  • 31/East Street to I-465 westbound
  • Harding Street/S.R. 37 to I-465 westbound
  • Kentucky Avenue/S.R. 67 to I-465 westbound

To gain an understanding of what kind of work is being accomplished, watch this short video from the eastbound I-465 closure in June.

The official detour follows northbound I-65 to westbound I-70 at the South Split. We encourage motorists to plan for extra travel time and seek alternate routes when possible or check out 511.org before heading out the door and see what your commute looks like. Be sure to follow @I69FinishLine on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter to stay up-to-date on the latest project news. We thank you for your patience as crews work quickly and effectively!

  • Daytime single-lane and nightly double-lane restrictions for eastbound I-465 are expected throughout the duration of the directional closures.
  • 20-minute stoppages at Harding Street, Bluff Road and Meridian Street will occur as needed to move equipment in and out of the work zone.
  • Motorists traveling along I-465 should watch for large trucks and equipment entering and exiting the work zone.
  • Following the July 4th holiday, road crews in Johnson and Morgan counties plan to switch southbound S.R. 37 traffic onto permanent pavement and striping from Smith Valley Road to Banta Road.

The actual starting date and duration for work and any closures may be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen activities occur.
