On Track Update: September 21, 2020

Progress on I-69 Finish Line will mean some daytime intermittent traffic stoppages on State Road 37 this week. Drivers should plan extra travel time, expect possible delays and slow down in the area. Traffic will be stopped for up to 20 minutes at a time as large concrete beams are delivered for two bridges under construction.

The biggest traffic impact is expected Wednesday and Thursday south of S.R. 39 in Martinsville. Structural beams will be installed for a new bridge for the future southbound I-69 lanes. Tandem trucks will deliver the beams and a large crane will lift each beam into place over Indian Creek. This process will close both directions of S.R. 37 for up to 20 minutes at a time before traffic is cleared. Multiple closures are expected.

Bridge beams are also scheduled to be delivered today through Wednesday to New Harmony Road north of Martinsville. Due to their size and destination, the beams must be backed through the New Harmony Road intersection, requiring both directions of S.R. 37 traffic to stop briefly.

Watch for additional work on S.R. 37. Crews are deploying signs and orange barrels along S.R. 37 from Morgan Street to S.R. 144. Crews are paving and resurfacing in the S.R. 37 median and northbound shoulder. The work will begin as soon as this week and result in a single lane closure on northbound S.R. 37 that could extend for up to four miles. Closures will happen outside of morning rush hour.

Because of the increased construction activity and changing traffic conditions, police are enforcing a reduced speed limit of 45 MPH for the safety of both motorists and highway workers.

The many improvements being made this year will provide local access in Morgan County both during and after mainline I-69 construction, which starts next year. Watch this short video to learn more.

  • A single lane closure on S.R. 37 near Egbert Road is expected to begin early Wednesday as crews pour concrete for the new bridge deck.
  • Residents along Willowbrook Drive have a newly paved connection to Egbert Road. Temporary access between S.R. 37 and Egbert Road is being maintained for local traffic only with Henderson Ford Road serving as the alternate route. Click here to view a map of the area.
  • Watch for flaggers on Burton Lane this week near Indy’s Family Restaurant. Work is ongoing to improve and extend Southview Drive along S.R. 37.
  • Another new section of Twin Branch Road is expected to open in the coming week as construction continues north of S.R. 44.

  • Access to houses along Perry Lane could change as early as next week. Instead of following the Perry Road detour, residents will use the right-in right-out intersection at S.R. 37 at Lincoln Road. Perry Road access will remain closed south of Perry Lane for road construction.
