On Track Update – March 30, 2020

We hit a milestone moment last week as temperatures warmed enough to pour the concrete deck for the new Grand Valley Boulevard overpass!

What was an intersection with a traffic light will provide a new east-west connection for drivers and pedestrians. It connects Martinsville High School and neighborhoods west of SR 37 with businesses east of the highway.

The new overpass is expected to open to traffic late spring. Click here to check out photos from the big day and click here to check out a behind-the scenes video!

  • Crews remain at work. They’re taking extra precautions as they continue to perform essential work to keep the I-69 Finish Line project on track.
  • Tree clearing winds down for the season this week. INDOT preserves two acres of existing trees and replants one acre for each acre cleared.
  • Crews are driving piling for new bridges over the highway near Egbert Rd. and Henderson Ford Rd.
  • Utility crews are installing new service lines to make way for construction.
  • The west side of the SR 144 intersection with SR 37 is scheduled to be widened this week and the signal modified. The SR 144 flasher at Mann Rd./Centenary Dr. will become a temporary traffic signal.
  • Crews are shifting SR 39 traffic, patching pavement and installing underground pipes in Martinsville. The speed limit is reduced to 35 mph.
  • Crews will remove deck forms and begin bridge railing work now that the concrete has cured on the new Grand Valley Blvd. overpass.
  • Wednesday is National Walking Day! When complete, a new walkway on the Grand Valley Blvd. overpass will safely connect residents and students with businesses.

The actual starting date and duration for work and any closures may be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen activities occur.

About I-69 Finish Line
I-69 Finish Line is the sixth and final section of the Interstate 69 connection between Evansville and Indianapolis. The project will upgrade the existing State Road 37 to interstate standards between Martinsville and Indianapolis.

Governor Eric Holcomb’s Next Level Connections program fully funded the $1.5 billion project and accelerated construction by three years. I-69 Finish Line is expected to open to traffic in late 2024, improving safety and reducing travel time.
