On Track Project Update: September 26, 2022

Late last week, crews opened the new Mann Road bridge over I-465 on the southwest side of Indianapolis. It is the fourth of five overpasses to be successfully replaced in phases since last year.

The new bridges will allow for more lanes of I-465 to fit underneath. The I-69 Finish Line project includes about 8 miles of I-465 between I-70 and I-65 on the southwest side of Indianapolis.

Crews are removing center median barrier between the White River and Harding Street to allow I-465 traffic to shift during future construction phases. Expect to see increasing activity along I-465 late this year ahead of work beginning in earnest next year to rebuild and widen the interstate.

  • Ongoing work to remove median barrier and replace the Carson Avenue overpass requires nightly I-465 lane closures to continue between I-65 and the White River bridge on the southwest side of Indianapolis. Intermittent nighttime closures of the nearby southbound I-65 ramp to westbound I-465 are also needed.
  • Work on the new I-69 lanes and interchange will require a long-term closure of Epler Avenue and Belmont Avenue west of S.R. 37. It’s expected to begin on Sunday, Oct. 2. Click here for a map of the closure locations and the detour, which follows Banta Road and Concord Street.
  • Crews expect to shift two miles of northbound S.R. 37 onto new pavement on Wednesday between S.R. 144 and Fairview Road. Expect northbound traffic restrictions between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. to move temporary barriers and adjust pavement markings.
  • After the S.R. 37 traffic shift is completed, construction crews will adjust the traffic signal and pavement markings at the Smith Valley Road intersection.
  • The new S.R. 144 interchange partially opened more than a week ago, removing another stoplight on S.R. 37. Click here to view a map of detour routes while two ramps are completed south of S.R. 144.
  • Applying the final layer of pavement is expected to close Henderson Ford Road ramps on Monday and Tuesday nights. The northbound S.R. 37 entrance and exit ramps are scheduled to close on Monday night and the southbound S.R. 37 entrance and exit ramps are expected to close on Tuesday.
  • Ongoing work in the area south of Henderson Ford Road includes final paving and striping, bridge painting, cable barrier installation and temporary driveway removal.
  • An Ohio Street traffic signal was activated last week at the Ruth Rusie Way entrance to the Artesian Square Shopping Center. Paving of Bobby Helms and Bill’s boulevards is expected to resume this week.

The actual starting date and duration for work and any closures may be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen activities occur.
