On Track Project Update: October 24, 2022

  • Over the past year, large trucks have successfully moved more than one million cubic yards of earth for the future interstate system interchange at I-69 and I-465. It’s enough to fill a standard dump truck 100,000 times! To learn about I-69 by the numbers, see the Infographic on our Project Documents webpage.
  • Crews are preparing to shift Southport Road onto the new bridge over future I-69 this November. The first step will shift traffic west of State Road 37 this weekend, near Wellingshire Boulevard and the realigned Belmont Avenue. Expect left-turn access to close for less than a day during the transition.
  • Late last week, crews lifted structural beams into place for the Carson Avenue overpass. I-465 traffic should expect lane closures and intermittent traffic stops at night for continued bridgework.
  • Trucks will be delivering large bridge beams through the I-69 work zone midday on Tuesday. Expect intermittent stoppages near the S.R. 144 interchange as each beam is backed into the reach of the crane. The new beams are for the S.R. 144 on-ramp to southbound I-69, which is expected to open later this year.
  • Huggin Hollow Road access to Waverly Park Road/Old S.R. 37 is expected to reopen with a traffic shift this week. The closure allowed roundabout construction to progress at S.R. 144 to the north.
  • Median cable barrier installation, drainage work and other finishing touches continue along S.R. 37 between Martinsville and Henderson Ford Road. Around the clock lane closures are expected to end this fall after permanent striping work is completed.
  • Overhead lighting at the Henderson Ford Road interchange has been completed. It helps illuminate the roundabouts for drivers as the nights get longer this fall. Watch a video to learn about roundabout interchanges for I-69 in Morgan and Johnson counties.

The actual starting date and duration for work and any closures may be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen activities occur.
