Road and bridge construction is very evident with signs of I-69 Finish Line progress throughout Martinsville and Morgan County, but it’s important to remember utility work and relocations are also continuing. Much of that progress is happening below ground and isn’t nearly as visible as other construction milestones happening along the corridor. Utility relocations are clearing the way for progress. Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) Project Manager Sarah Rubin says this is a massive effort that includes gas, electric, sewer, cable telephone and fiber lines. Watch this short video to learn more.

With utility crews out in force, there are a couple of key reminders for residents to keep in mind. Do not pull up utility or right-of-way stakes on your property. It may be tempting to pull the stakes to mow and reinsert them. Moving stakes, even a small amount, can lead to errors and disruptions in phone, cable and internet services.  It’s also important to remember utility companies are responsible for final cleanup. Reach out directly to the companies with any questions or concerns and you can always follow up with our INDOT4U contact channels if you need assistance.

INDOT is coordinating with more than 40 utility companies that are installing more than 120 miles of new service lines to make way for I-69 Finish Line. Watch this short video from earlier this year to learn more about the efforts. The work being done now will lead to improved utility service in the areas along the new I-69.
